Preparing to shift toward a data-driven culture—a change that has as much to do with people as it does with data—is, accordingly, largely a people-centric activity. This is the stage in the process during which the change leader must be-come a salesperson. And as with any sale, the job of the salesperson is to educate the buyer about what the product is and how it will benefit her or him.

This excerpt from APQC’s best practices report, Change Management Practices for Establishing a Data-driven Culture, will explain how you can sow the seeds of change in your organization by:

  • conducting a current state assessment to create a baseline and add focus to the change effort,
  • enlisting senior leadership to legitimate and guide the change, and
  • building a compelling business case for change.
