Help Employees Understand the Level at Which They Are Participating in KM and Allow for Friendly Competition

APQC focused its 2013 Transferring and Applying Critical Knowledge Best Practices Study on strategies and processes for identifying, capturing, transferring, and applying critical knowledge inside organizations. During the research, the study team explored not only the best ways to pinpoint and transmit institutional knowledge, but also the change management practices that support effective knowledge transfer.

Many of the study best-practice organizations tie evaluations of KM participation to their performance management processes, but receiving feedback during an annual review or goal-setting session may not be sufficient to change behavior. To address this, some best-practice organizations provide employees with more frequent data regarding their personal participation levels as well as those of communities or groups they manage.
