APQC’s 2010 study on communities, Positioning Communities of Practice for Success, identified seven critical success factors that support effective community programs. One of these factors is engagement and participation. If communities are going to provide value, then employees must not only join, but also actively participate in community discussion forums, Webinars, content sharing, and other activities. Case examples from Alcoa World Alumina, Ernst & Young, and Schlumberger are included.
