Leveraging a process framework as a foundational pillar for business process management (BPM) is a best practice. Many organizations have adopted and adapted APQC’s Process Classification Framework (PCF), or some other framework, as a mechanism to identify and organize its process activities. 

The framework is the cornerstone for building process models, establishing process governance, establishing aligned process metrics, and synchronizing functions and process models to strategic objectives. It is very difficult for any organization to reach a level 3 process maturity (standardize) without a process framework. 

This article discusses how organizations can utilize the PCF as a powerful process management tool.
