Supply chain management practices are of great interest to senior level executives in many organizations. Many opinions exist on how to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in supply chain management. Less widely available, however, are in-depth descriptions of what the standard of excellence looks like within individual organizations with lean supply chain practices.

APQC's study How Shingo Prize Winners Manage Their Supply Chains looked at the lean supply chain practices of Shingo Prize winners. The Shingo Prize awards organizations that demonstrate a culture in which operational excellence is deeply embedded into the thinking and behavior of all employees.
