Percentage of common data across all business units
This measure calculates the percentage of common data across all business. Common data refers to information assets that have direct shared access across all business units (such as direct database access, not informal methods of sharing such as emailed documents). In this case, an asset indicates that the item has value to the enterprise; information refers to data and all its synonyms including data, information element, codified knowledge, etc. When captured on a survey, data size (GB) should be used to estimate the percentage. This measure is part of a set of Process Efficiency measures that help companies optimize their "manage enterprise information" process by minimizing waste and refining resource consumption.

Key Terms
Process efficiency represents how well a process converts its inputs into outputs. A process that converts 100% of the inputs into outputs without waste is more efficient than one that converts a similar amount of inputs into fewer outputs.
