Average number of production defects in both enhancements and new developments per 1,000 function points
This measure calculates the average number of production defects per 1,000 function points found in the first 12 months of use of the software for both enhancements and completely new developments. It does not consider software that has not been in production for 12 months. Defect analysis allows for continuous quality improvement in IT services and solutions. This measure is part of a set of Process Efficiency measures that help companies optimize their "develop and maintain information technology solutions" process by minimizing waste and refining resource consumption.

Key Terms
Process efficiency
Process efficiency represents how well a process converts its inputs into outputs. A process that converts 100% of the inputs into outputs without waste is more efficient than one that converts a similar amount of inputs into fewer outputs.
