Gamification in Knowledge Management

|

APQC is hosting a Gamification in Knowledge Management virtual roundtable later this month. If your organization is using game elements in its KM program (or seriously considering it), email me to find out more about this cool knowledge-sharing opportunity. (It’s complimentary and involves no prep on your part—just a chance to share insights and experiences with peers.) However, if you’re not sure what “gamification” even is, keep reading.

What knowledge management trends did we see develop last year, and what predictions can we make for the future? Yesterday morning, Carla O’Dell and I hosted APQC’s January KM community call to share our thoughts and find out about your top priorities for 2013.

As part of prepping for the call, I did some analysis of the top-downloaded content from 2012. Some of the content is member-only, but starred items are available to everyone.

Process Management: An Explanation for the Masses

|

One of the big hurdles in my work is explaining the value of process management to people who are actually executing processes—ones that I’m trying to put under control. It’s not easy. Many times the value appears dubious—the return on investment (ROI) can’t be achieved in the short term. People quickly lose interest, unless they’ve drunk the “Kool-Aid,” so to speak.

Fiscal Cliff Deal Affects Fixed Asset Management

|

On January 1, 2013, final passage of the “fiscal cliff bill,” otherwise known as the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, averted scheduled income tax increases and spending reduction requirements, much to the relief of many. However, this new Act also retroactively reinstates for 2012 many fixed asset management tax provisions that expired at the end of 2011. Included below is an excerpt from Title III in the Act.
