Individual Process Improvement

It is the second month of 2013, and I am sure we all are still working hard on our 2013 resolutions; some of us have also probably realized at this point…some might not happen this year.  Why do our resolutions always have to be about our personal lives?  Why can’t we look at what is going on in our professional life and try to improve that aspect as well.  The only way we are going to get better is to take a hard look at our self and make changes.  This article is a little dated, but I think it is a good time to dust it off and remind ourselves what challenges we need to face every day to make sure we are getter better.  Graham Jones posted in his article 5 Leadership Lessons: How the Best Get Better and Stay That Way that the only way to get better is to:

  1. Learn to love pressure
  2. Fixate on the long term
  3. Irons sharpen irons
  4. Reinvent yourself
  5. Celebrate victories

I will let you read the short article yourself, but I really challenge you to take a look at reinventing yourself.  Think about how you can apply that not only to your life, but how you can apply it to the people and process that you lead.  If you are leading a great group, how can you challenge your team to get better?  If you have an old process that works, what needs to be done to the process to modernize or automate it?  Take a look at our Seven Tenets of Process Management and use them as guide for what to change, and how to change.  Keep in mind, as Isaac Asimov said, “the only constant is change.”
