APQC’s Process Classification Framework (PCF)® can help in process mapping by hierarchically organizing what work is done, outlining core and supporting processes in a standard approach, and thus helping the organization to focus on the most relevant processes. The most common way organizations use the PCF in their mapping efforts is as a reference list of processes to consider during their mapping—so they don’t have to start from scratch or to identify potentially new processes for consideration. This article details how to build process maps using common tools including the PCF.
