Pratt & Whitney Operations Process Classification Framework (PCF) Journey
Pratt & Whitney is an aerospace engine manufacturer with many diverse and complex operations processes. Senior leadership recognized that the organization had strong functional expertise, but often operated in silos. To solve this problem, Pratt & Whitney used APQC's Process Classification Framework® (PCF) to drive horizontal alignment and support process integration. Employees from every discipline—including quality, planning, manufacturing & assembly, and manufacturing & industrial engineering—were engaged in creating process definitions and assigning accountability for every process they defined.
To solve this problem, Pratt & Whitney developed their Process Inventory through the use of APQC's Process Classification Framework® (PCF) to drive horizontal alignment and support process integration. This presentation will provide an overview of Pratt & Whitney's eight-step approach to this project, along with detailed examples of the actual use of the process.
Readers will learn:
- How to implement the PCF through an interactive, cross-functional process;
- How to use the PCF to create a master list of processes as a foundation for continuous improvement; and
- How to use the PCF with an embedded RACI to clarify processes and ownership.
