Key Considerations for Process Mapping
A process map, also known as a process flow or flow chart, is a visual representation of the steps of a process and how those steps are aligned to the various roles that perform them. As such, the process flow chart is very useful at showing how work moves between people, departments, systems, or other actors in a process.
This article will cover key considerations for utilizing maps to visualize your processes; however, it’s important to note, there are three core tools organizations use when it comes to documenting and understanding processes – process frameworks, process models, and process maps. If you’d like to learn more about the differences between the three, view APQC’s article, Knowing the Difference: Frameworks, Maps, and Models.
