In 2018, 2024, and again in 2025, APQC carried out survey research to better understand the common challenges and priorities associated with operational KPIs for process and performance management (PPM) practitioners. In this article, APQC unpacks survey data related to the primary KPIs that respondents use in their organizations and how they have changed over the years.

APQC finds that respondents in 2024 and 2025 are tracking a more balanced set of primary KPIs, which will in turn enable a more holistic picture of process performance. While some KPIs have shifted in line with changing organizational priorities and changes to the broader business environment, APQC also found that KPIs like financial results are still front and center.
