In late 2024, APQC surveyed KM programs to understand their inputs, outputs, and success drivers. The research is designed to help KM programs bolster their business cases, benchmark their performance, and identify ideas for improvement. 
This report looks at differences among KM programs based on their program scope. It compares enterprise-level KM programs that support the entire organization vs. local KM programs that cover part of the organization such as a manufacturing, operating, or business unit; region; or department.

Findings from the survey, include:

  • Current KM organizational models and reporting relationships
  • KM tools, approaches, technologies and program elements in place
  • Staffing levels, including KM core team and embedded business roles
  • KM costs, allocations, and funding sources
  • Adoption and participation rates for KM approaches
  • Measures used to evaluate KM program performance and impact
  • KM outcome metrics
