APQC Hires Rick McCarthy as Director of Open Standards Benchmarking

McCarthy is responsible for innovation in benchmarking tools and processes as well as oversight of custom benchmarking projects, MosaiQ® and APQC’s Process Classification Framework

(HOUSTON, TEXAS – June 15, 2020)APQC, the benchmarking and best practices authority, has hired Rick McCarthy  as director of Open Standards Benchmarking® (OSB). As director of the group responsible for managing APQC’s OSB database and the world-renowned Process Classification Framework® (PCF), McCarthy now serves as the product owner for OSB, which is the world’s largest and most widely used database of process performance metrics, as well as for APQC’s Benchmarks on Demand, PCF and MosaiQ® products.

“It was important to us to find the right leader to safeguard and enhance our data collection and analysis processes and to help our members identify and interpret the data for effective use in their organizations,” says Lisa Higgins, APQC’s president and chief executive officer. “Rick is a great skill and culture fit for APQC, and I’m excited about his ideas for expanding and carrying our Open Standards Benchmarking business into the future.”

McCarthy brings to APQC more than 20 years of experience as a business and operations leader, management consultant, change leader and facilitator in Lean and Agile environments. McCarthy is a Certified Agile Scrum Master and a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. He has been a lifelong student and teacher of Lean, Design Thinking, Agile and Six Sigma.

“I’m always looking for the right metrics and process data mapping connections, as that has been my focus for years as a management consultant. So, I feel like a kid in a candy shop with the vast amount of benchmarking data that APQC has collected through the decades,” McCarthy says. “I’m excited to use my background in professional services and operations to interpret existing and new data and to find next-level dimensions where we can deliver more value to APQC members through additional interpretive statistical analysis.”
A former management consultant, his experience includes tenures at Accenture, PricewaterhouseCoopers and EY as well as owner of a successful strategic management consulting and training firm. In 2001, he co-founded Training, Leadership Consulting (TLC Global), a leadership development, change management, strategy and enterprise transformation consulting firm, where he served as managing director for nine years.

McCarthy earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from University of Colorado Boulder’s Leeds School of Business. He holds a certificate in artificial intelligence and business strategy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and studied Lean leadership at the University of Cape Town.
