This course teaches practical process analysis skills essential for designing new workflows or improving existing ones. You’ll learn how to apply foundational principles, choose the right techniques based on goals and context, and evaluate processes for timing, risk, and reliability. The course also covers Lean Six Sigma concepts and helps you avoid common pitfalls like analysis paralysis and solution bias—ensuring decisions are driven by value.

APQC’s Process Basics learning path is designed to provide foundational understanding and skill development toward proven techniques and practices for design and management of the work done across an organization. The courses include training on process and process management best practices that work across all sizes and types of organizations. You will gain understanding of critical process design practices that not only produce an effective and efficient process, but also make it sustainable and enable both continuous and transformative improvement.

In this course, participants will learn how to design, implement, and manage effective business processes and document critical process knowledge using various tools such as process frameworks, model current and future state, and prepare process definition documents, SIPOC models, and RACI charts. They will also understand how to ensure alignment with organizational goals and create agility to changing environments.

In APQC’s Process Framework Essentials course, you'll explore the structure, core principles, and practical applications of frameworks, with real-world examples. The course covers essential skills for selecting, designing, and applying process frameworks for various value-driven purposes. You'll also learn how to adopt or customize a process framework, including APQC's Process Classification Framework®, for your organization to enhance process management, content management, and benchmarking.

This course is organized around the Seven Tenets of Process Management. Participants in this course will learn about the process lifecycle and how the seven tenets guide mature process practices; details and examples for each of the seven tenets; and how the seven tenets work together to build a strong process management approach.

This course will help participants understand how to match their organizations’ knowledge needs with the right capture and transfer approaches. It will include an overview of best practices for critical knowledge transfer and help participants understand needs to support access, refresh, and apply critical knowledge to realize the value.
