Putting Learning and Development Technology to Work: How Best-in-Class L&D Programs Leverage Technology to Get Results
Many organizations spend one-third or more of their learning and development (L&D) budgets on technology, yet little research has explored how best-in-class companies use L&D technology to deliver value to the business. When used well, L&D technology has the potential to:
- free time for learning professionals to focus on strategic initiatives and partnerships
- improve L&D resource allocation
- accelerate employee learning
- provide more customized and personalized learning experiences
- develop training that grabs and holds workers’ attention
- improve measurement of L&D results, generating support for future investment
In this report, we dive into various types of L&D tools and platforms and explore the overarching questions of why and how organizations use them, as well as how much they spend. We also discuss what differentiates best-in-class L&D organizations in terms of tech spending, implementation, and measurement. Our comparisons of the best-in-class L&D group with the “everyone else” group are correlational, not causational, but they provide important insights about the value of technology in today’s workforce learning and development function.
