Suppose you are building a house; you wouldn’t begin pouring foundation or raising walls without a blueprint in hand. You would start by consulting with an architect to design a plan to provide structure and ensure every part of the building fit together seamlessly.

In the same way, implementing an effective process management program requires a well-defined framework that can help guide each decision and keep everyone on the same page. This case study focuses on Boon Edam’s journey in developing a process management program that began with constructing an architecture that could provide direction and accountability.

Boon Edam, founded over 150 years ago in Amsterdam as a carpenter shop, has grown into a family-owned global manufacturer of commercial doors and entry systems. With a staff of over 1,250 and production facilities in the Netherlands, US, and China, the company operates 16 subsidiaries and exports to over 50 countries. APQC’s Madison Lundquist spoke with Peter Klein (Business Process Analyst, Quality & Sustainability) to discuss how the company implemented a new framework to inform their process improvement goals, gain operational efficiency, and level up their process maturity.
