It's an Analytics Block Party!

How well do you know your neighbors? You may share a wall/fence with them, but do you even know their names?  Have you ever talked to them about anything more than the weather (or maybe that temperamental mail delivery guy)?

I’m willing to bet that if I surveyed everyone reading this post, the majority would confess that they hardly know their neighbors at all. And since I’m feeling especially audacious today, I’ll also wager that, in the case of the majority of readers, there is at least one person who works within 50 feet of them to whom they have never spoken. This person may work on a different value stream than yours. Maybe they’ve mastered the art of avoiding eye contact with you in the workplace. Either way, even though they share the same air with you, you’re barely acquainted with them.

While diligently making an effort to prevent this phenomenon from occurring in my office (i.e., chatting over cubicle walls), I discovered that two of my APQC colleagues, Ron Webb and Christy Aroopala, are encountering the same challenges in their work that my team has covered extensively in our Change Management for Building a Data-driven Culture research project.

Ron and Christy work with APQC clients to help them understand how to use their data to make informed decisions and take actions that are more likely to yield the business results they’re looking for. In short, Ron and Christy help their customers become more data driven.

In this podcast, Ron, Christy, and I discuss where their work resides beneath the “analytics umbrella,” what’s so hard about becoming data driven, and how humans’ roles in organizations will change as decision making becomes increasingly automated.
