Gain best practices insights into creating cost-effective, flexible, and responsive internal control processes, and help your organization ensure management directives are carried out and necessary safeguards are implemented to guarantee compliance by completing the Internal Controls Open Standards Benchmarking Assessment.

Internal control is a process for assuring an organizations objectives in operational effectiveness and efficiency, reliable financial reporting, and compliance with laws regulations and policies. At the organizational level, internal control objectives relate to the reliability of financial reporting, timely feedback on the achievement of operational or strategic goals, and compliance with laws and regulations. Here at APQC we have compiled a massive amount of this information in order to understand how and why top performers are where they are. This survey allows you to access that information and compare the organization to the top performers.

Some key metrics gained through this assessment include:

  • Total cost to perform the process " report on internal controls compliance" per $1000 revenue
  • Personnel cost to perform the process " establish internal controls, policies, and procedures" per $1000 revenue
  • Cycle time in calendar days (including weekends) from the identification of a control violation until the violation is reported/communicated to the control or process owner
  • Number of FTEs that perform the process "establish internal controls, policies, and procedures" per $1 billion revenue

All submissions to APQC's benchmarking database, both Open Standards Benchmarking and Rapid Performance Assessments, must be collected using APQC's easy-to-use Microsoft Excel data collection instruments. Please download a fresh copy of the assessment file by clicking the “Download Survey to Start Assessment” button.

Each benchmarking assessment offers an Excel-based data collection tool consisting of the survey itself, the measures associated with the survey, the glossary terms needed to understand the survey, and a copy of the Process Classification Framework (PCF) relevant to the data collection instrument. The consolidated data collection tool is intended to simplify the collection of benchmarking data within your organization.
