Kansas State Department of Education certifies its teachers who complete required training and who engage in and complete professional development credits. The process of identifying, certifying and licensing who had completed the credits was extremely manual. KSDE had initiated a Process and Performance Management initiative with the support of APQC. The Deputy Commissioner selected the Licensure Process as the pilot project for the Division of Learning Services. Applying basic principles of process management, the department associates evaluated their own process and implemented dramatic changes significantly impacting the efficiency of the process while delivering value to its customers, the teachers.
