Something for Just About Everyone

This month we’ve released several new content pieces related to supply chain management. We have something for just about everyone, whether you want a high-level look at supply chain processes, information on procurement practices, or best practices in reverse logistics.

At APQC’s 2011 process conference, Sukumar Narasimhan from Reliance Industries led a breakout session on the redesign of his organization’s physical distribution process. His presentation, Turnaround of a Business Through the Transformation of Physical Distribution, provides great information on the lessons learned and the benefits obtained by Reliance Industries.

From APQC’s Open Standards Benchmarking in procurement are two articles on supplier category management. Category Management and the Potential for Robust Supplier Relationships reveals that organizations with category management programs have fewer suppliers and purchase more from suppliers that participate in vendor-managed inventory programs. Category Management: Streamlined Procurement Function notes that organizations with category management programs use fewer individual purchase orders and need fewer full-time procurement employees.

The article Leaders Show Power of Reverse Logistics discusses some of the reverse logistics processes adopted by best-practice organizations. This article was originally published in the November/December 2011 issue of Supply Chain Management Review.

We have more supply chain content in the works, so stay tuned!
