APQC is putting the finishing touches on a study that examined which tools (software and hardware) our members are using to be more productive at home and in the workplace. We found that laptops and smartphones are the tools that are used most often (see chart below). This comes on the heels of a recent article in USA Today by Jon Swartz that says most of us have more than one device. I am guilty of that—I have a smartphone, a tablet, a work laptop, and a personal laptop.
Interestingly, another article by Gartner says that tablet shipments will continue to grow through 2014. However, in our analysis, the tablet was the one tool that our members said that could do without, and it didn’t really help them be more productive. In fact, almost half our respondents said that they could “take or leave” the tablet when it came to their device of choice.
Our research will be released soon, but we are always interested in learning what tools make you more productive as you look to get through your day.
