At the start the year, I identified six priorities for HR. Among them was the imperative for HR to perfect its operations. In the article, Human Capital Management 2011, I wrote:
HR will be expected to maintain the heightened levels of work force productivity and cost containment reached during the 2008-2009 recession. HR will need efficiency, flexibility, and speed to effectively navigate a future that CEOs predict will be defined by fast-paced organizational change. It will be important that cost saving, efficiency maximization efforts do not hinder the quality of HR service delivery, however, as prompt and effective HR delivery will be a key factor in retaining employees as the job market improves.
An HR shared services center can be a powerful vehicle for perfecting HR operations. When effectively designed and implemented, HR shared services centers can contain work force costs, speed work force transactions, and deliver exceptional HR customer service.
