Total Cost of Payroll

This article examines APQC’s cross-industry benchmarking data on the total cost of payroll as a percentage of revenue. After reviewing this data, APQC highlights three areas where finance leaders can intervene to bring down payroll costs: the organization’s systems, the payroll process itself, and the organization’s delivery model for payroll. Considering all of these areas as parts of an integrated system helps organizations to think strategically about where and how they can improve the payroll process.
