When communities of practice (CoPs) thrive, employees learn together, share knowledge across organizational boundaries, develop rich and useful content, and bolster the broader knowledge management (KM) program.
CoP expert and author Stan Garfield provided tips and tricks for managing successful CoP programs during the annual “Back to School” KM webinar in August 2024.
Lynda Braksiek, APQC’s KM principal research lead, spoke with Stan Garfield, author of The Handbook of Community Management: A Guide to Leading Communities of Practice, who has been leading and discussing CoPs for four decades, through his work at companies like Deloitte and Hewlett Packard.
This article summarizes the guidance and resources Garfield offered during the webinar. For more APQC content from Stan Garfield, read his blog here.
