Communities of practice are an excellent mechanism for facilitating connections among colleagues. Past research identified three features that help communities enable people-to-people connections:

  1. open access,
  2. member profiles, and
  3. expertise location.

APQC’s 2017 Next-Generation Communities of Practice study found that these approaches have evolved somewhat, but remain important facets of modern communities. This article presents these three features in the context of APQC’s latest research.
