APQC research previously recommended standardizing online community sites to make it easier for employees to submit, retrieve, and reuse knowledge. However, the 2017 Next-Generation Communities of Practice study found that attitudes toward site standardization have changed. Current best-practice organizations use tailored sites that pull in components as needed and reflect the mission and unique “personality” of each community.
