Apply Consistent Procurement Processes to Reduce Maverick Buying

No organization can achieve process maturity without first achieving process standardization. Having a standardized approach to any work process is necessary for quality controls, efficiency, performance controls, and improvement. In procurement, consistent processes also prevent “maverick buying,” or employees purchasing goods and services outside of organizational standards.

These findings are supported by data from APQC’s Open Standards Benchmarking research in procurement and examples from successful organizations.
