The Women in Supply Chain award honors female supply chain leaders and executives whose accomplishments, mentorship and examples set a foundation for women in all levels of a company’s supply chain network. APQC’S Marisa Brown, senior principal research lead for supply chain management, was named as one of the inaugural Women in Supply Chain award winners. Earlier in 2020, Brown was also named a “Supply Chain Pro to Know” by Supply & Demand Chain Executive.

“I am honored and humbled to be included among so many outstanding women who are making their mark in supply chain,” said Brown. “APQC’s work to help supply chain organizations survive and thrive in the face of the unprecedented disruption and transformation we’ve seen this year has illustrated the importance of benchmarks, best practices, and data-driven insights. I’ve focused on helping create significant and sustainable improvement in supply chains. I’m fortunate to be a part of this effort and to interact every day with so many other women who are similarly impacting supply chain management through their efforts.”

“We received over 200 entries for this new award, entries that were submitted from a combination of men and women. This proves that our industry needed an award like this, especially in conjunction with Supply & Demand Chain Executive’s 20-year anniversary,” says Marina Mayer, editor-in-chief of Supply & Demand Chain Executive and Food Logistics. “According to Gartner’s 2020 Women in Supply Chain Survey, 17% of chief supply chain officers are now women – a 6% increase compared to 2019. This award resembles females supporting other female leaders; men supporting their female counterparts. It resembles the future. It represents growth, evolution and community. And, that future shows that it’s a great time to be a part of the supply chain industry. So, congratulations to these top female leaders. I look forward to seeing what else you do to grow the supply chain industry.”

As APQC’s senior principal research lead for supply chain management, Brown examines best practices, benchmarks, and innovation in supply chain planning, procurement, supplier relationship management, logistics, manufacturing, and product development. She combines quantitative and qualitative research to offer APQC members in-depth analysis and actionable insights to make their supply chains more effective, efficient, and strategic. Brown has written hundreds of reports and articles for APQC, including Identifying and Developing the Future Skills Needed in Sourcing and Procurement,  Evolving Trends in Enterprise and Supply Chain Data Analytics, Reinventing Supplier Relationship Management, Transform Customer Service and Operations Through Order Automation, Understanding Millennials in the Supply Chain, Blueprint for Success: Supply Chain Planning, Blueprint for Success: Logistics, Blueprint for Success: Procurement, and Open Innovation: Enhancing Idea Generation Through Collaboration.

Brown is a sought-after speaker and media contributor. She pens monthly articles for Supply & Demand Chain Executive as well as Supply Chain Management Review. She has also been featured in Forbes, CFO.com, PayTech, SupplyChainBrain, IT World, IndustryWeek, and Supply Chain World, among others.
