(Houston, Texas – December 2, 2016) – APQC, the benchmarking and best practices authority, announced that Joe Tillman has joined the organization as the Principal Research Lead for Supply Chain Management. Tillman brings a broad range of hands-on experience in the supply chain industry, spanning from inventory management, transportation, and warehousing roles to research, training, and consulting.
Tillman will oversee all aspects of APQC’s research on supply chain industry practices, including benchmarking, best practices, and process and performance improvement. “We still have many questions to explore from a practical standpoint and opportunities to better pinpoint what drives performance in the supply chain,” Tillman said. “By better documenting interdependencies and collaboration of the supply chain to other functional areas, we can help organizations improve overall. I’m excited to lead this research for APQC members and the industry as a whole.”

Previously, Tillman spent more than 10 years as the founder and chief executive officer of TSquared Logistics, a supply chain education and research company, and also served as a senior researcher with Supply Chain Visions, Ltd. In those roles he supervised the developed, researched, and delivered courses, seminars, and consulting services for clients. Earlier in his career, he worked in import and regional warehousing for Walmart, Inc.; as a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad, and as a parts inventory specialist and diesel mechanic apprentice for the University of Georgia’s campus transit facility.
Tillman is a WERC Researcher and co-leads the Warehousing Education and Research Council's (WERC) influential annual benchmarking study, "DC Measures." He is a certified APICS SCOR Professional and earned the Certified in Transportation and Logistics (CTL) designation from the American Society of Transportation and Logistics, which is now part of APICS. A frequent industry speaker, his work has been featured in publications and websites such as CSCMP’s Supply Chain Quarterly, DC Velocity, Supply & Demand Chain Executive, and SupplyChainBrain. He also has served as a past subject matter expert, speaker, and participant in APQC supply chain research.
He received his master of business administration degree, with an emphasis on logistics and organizational performance, from Georgia Southern University and his bachelor of science degree in geography from The University of Georgia.
