In response to social movements spurred by the murder of George Floyd in 2020 and trends like the Great Resignation, employees, prospective employees, and customers are all paying close attention to what organizations are doing to drive principles like diversity, equity, and inclusion. Even if organizations are committed to promoting these principles on paper, it can be difficult to know how to ask the right questions or where to get started.

In January 2022, APQC hosted Sarah Mushtaq (Consultant, KJI Consulting Collective) and Melinda Munro (Consultant, Munro Strategic Perspective) for a webinar about how organizations can use process tools to drive meaningful change that promotes inclusivity, diversity, equity, and antiracism (IDEA) across the business.

This article summarize the presentation and explores how two process tools—the Municipal Reference Model and APQC’s Process Classification Framework (PCF)®— can spur deeper thinking that not only promotes IDEA, but also helps organizations to design more efficient and effective processes.
