The Tata Group has been focusing on institutionalizing the principles of the Tata Business Excellence Model (TBEM) into group company processes for the last two decades. Today, Tata companies are at various levels of maturity in this journey. While there are several examples of industry and international benchmarks within the group, Tata’s leadership team directed efforts to accelerate the excellence journey by democratizing sharing and learning within the organization. To enable this, the Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG) developed and rolled out an approach to identify, capture, share, and transfer best practices.

This case study explores the resulting program, the Tata Best Practices Programme, and how it seeks to enable cross pollination of best practices that exist within as well as outside the Tata Group.
