Communications are a vital—but frequently underestimated—component of a successful KM rollout. An organization can invest as heavily as it wants in KM tools and approaches, but if it fails to market these solutions to the target audience, KM is unlikely to catch on and generate significant business value. Getting employees to embrace new ways of capturing, storing, and exchanging knowledge requires behavior change, and employees are unlikely to abandon the status quo unless they know exactly what, how, and why they should change. Along with training, a good communication plan is necessary to familiarize the workforce with KM capabilities and the business case behind them.
