Keeping an open channel of communication with the board--by maintaining proper visibility, making ERM reporting to the board a standardized and normal part of the corporate culture, and even inventing creative ways to handle ERM--allows boards to effectively execute their oversight role in risk management so that they may satisfy increasingly stringent reporting expectations.
