Defining Strategic Project Management Offices: Comparative Analysis by Organizational Size

Project management offices (PMOs) are moving beyond typical project management activities and are now providing more strategic insights and services that support enterprise-wide initiatives. To better understand this trend, APQC conducted a survey to assess the new roles PMOs are playing within organizations and to understand the key characteristics (structure, responsibilities, and skills) necessary to provide strategic support.

This article explores the differences between PMOs at the two groups of organizations and draws conclusions about their role within the organization.
