Electricity utilities around the world are facing an accelerating transformation of their business models, customer expectations, competition, and underlying technologies. Societal and technical forces are combining to drive the rapid evolution of the electricity industry as increasing focus on service, safety, and sustainability drives change.
The Clean Electrification Maturity Model® (CEMM) was developed in conjunction with IBM’s Global Energy, Environment, and Utilities Industry with input from over 100 subject matter experts. It includes capabilities in 8 domains that focus on transformative characteristics for electricity utilities in the energy transition.
- Strategy And Leadership
- Organization and Culture
- Technology
- Sustainability
- Grid Operations
- Work and Asset Management
- Customer Experience
- Market Innovation
The assessment includes 25-30 questions on specific capabilities and practices across five levels of maturity for each domain. Utilities select the option which most closely matches their practices in an interactive tool and then submit their answers to APQC for tabulation, comparisons, and report generation.
The CEMM report will provide electricity utilities insight into their plans and progress in their transition to market structures and changing stakeholder expectations. The CEMM builds on new capabilities and the power of benchmarking to assist electricity utilities in identifying business opportunities and capabilities needed to thrive in the next generation of industry transition.
