According to APQC's research, best-practice organizations rely heavily on communities of practice as knowledge stewards. This is, at least in part, because communities bring together experts and practitioners who are interested in a particular area of knowledge or expertise. When communities are involved in collecting, assessing, and honing knowledge, organizations can ensure that everyone with a vested interest in a particular topic can contribute to the official body of knowledge and corporate positions on that topic.
