The Pros and Cons of Virtual Mentoring in the Workplace

In its research on Workplace Mentoring practices, one question APQC wanted to answer was whether mentoring needs to be face-to-face, or whether it can work just as well in a virtual environment.

When APQC posed this question to the mentoring program leaders it interviewed for the project, the response was mixed. Most said that virtual relationships can work, but their feasibility depends on the business purpose behind the mentorship, the learning objectives the mentee wants to pursue, and the culture of the organization.
