Position Title: Knowledge Specialist - Financial Management

Functional Area: Knowledge Center


The American Productivity & Quality Center (“APQC”) is seeking a skilled writer (preferably with corporate financial management knowledge) to produce APQC research content. The knowledge specialist is responsible for creating articles, white papers, case studies, audio/video recordings, and other content based on business research and data. The individual will use existing APQC research for some content items and will create others based on original thought and new research. In addition, the knowledge specialist will participate in peer editing and comply with APQC standards and requirements. The individual will work with APQC’s researchers, data analysts, and experts to ensure that the content he/she produces accurately represents APQC’s point of view and serves the needs of APQC’s marketing department and member organizations. The individual will also upload and organize his/her own content using an online content management system.



  • Write APQC’s financial management content (including but not limited to topics in accounting; accounts payable; accounts receivable; planning, budgeting, and forecasting; cash management; payroll; risk management; working capital management)
  • Create and adhere to APQC’s financial management publishing calendar
  • Edit other knowledge specialists’ content items
  • Perform original research and analysis as appropriate
  • Format and upload content items using APQC templates and content management systems
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure that APQC research is published and promoted
  • Deliver briefings about APQC content to internal and external audiences
  • Respond to member questions and requests for content
  • Create after-market versions of APQC research reports
  • Contribute to APQC’s strategic thinking across the financial management discipline


Qualifications & Skills:

  • 2-3 years of professional writing experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated research and analysis abilities
  • College degree in relevant field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Solid written and oral English
  • Strong project management and relationship management skills
  • Ability to understand business structure, improvement, and decision-making needs within large enterprises
  • Ability to form solid opinions based on relevant information extracted from existing APQC research
  • Experience with using Microsoft Office software (primarily Word and Excel)
  • Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style helpful (but not required)
  • Experience using a content management system (e.g., Web platforms, Microsoft SharePoint) helpful (but not required)
