Built on the findings of the 2016 ASQ Global State of Quality Report, this article focuses on the quality-related setbacks that can occur within organizations. Of the fourteen quality setbacks explored in the survey, five quickly rose to the top—poor understanding of quality management, product defects, poor data quality, service delays, and supply shortages. Though some are more frequently cited than others, all are more common than they should be.
