Using Communities of Practice for Targeted Collaboration at FMC Technologies

During APQC’s 2014 Knowledge Management Conference, FMC Technologies’ knowledge management specialists Luis Rodriquez and Chris Fyfe and the company’s design drafting supervisor Adrian Villarreal discussed the development of one of the company’s three pilot communities of practice (CoPs)—which they call the “global design drafting network”—for the organization’s knowledge management (KM) program. The presentation shared the three key factors necessary to change the organization’s culture and promote collaboration through the use of CoPs: developing a culture of collaboration, supporting execution through collaboration, and providing effective network leadership.
