In this article, Gary Hoover describes the importance of understanding business history and how such historical knowledge can stimilate ideas and insights for enterprises. He includes several examples to illustrate his point, including historical information about the U.S. railroad industry, Dutch airline KLM, publisher Simon and Schuster, and Disney.

Gary Hoover is an author, consultant, entrepreneur, and innovator whose business accomplishments include creating the pioneering book superstore BOOKSTOP and the online business information service Hoover’s. In 2009, Hoover was appointed entrepreneur-in-residence at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas in Austin.
