Setting Product and Component Cost Targets Is an Art and a Science

Organizations are increasingly interested in making design-to-cost an integral part of their product development process. In APQC’s recent research, it was clear that there are multiple methods used by organizations to set cost targets for end products or systems. Organizations also have different ways of dealing with costs of parts or components that are above set targets.
