Michelin was among the best-practice organizations studied as part of APQC’s Collaborative Benchmarking study Retaining Today's Knowledge for Tomorrow's Work Force. This case study describes Michelin's knowledge retention and transfer strategy and approaches.

Michelin manufactures and sells tires for all kinds of vehicles, including passenger cars, earthmovers, trucks, aircrafts, two-wheeled vehicles, and tractors. Given the organization's aging employee population and historical culture of secrecy, it realized that knowledge sharing was an opportunity it needed to address and implemented a comprehensive knowledge transfer program.
