NASA's Use of Knowledge Mapping to Enhance Learning and Create Value

In 2003, NASA experienced a very turbulent time after the Columbia space shuttle disaster in February of that year. To help avoid future disasters, NASA set out to expand its knowledge management (KM) program to include the analysis and reflection of project decisions that lead to project failures. During APQC’s 2016 KM Conference, Edward Rogers, chief knowledge officer at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, and Barbara Fillip, with ASRC Federal/Inuteq, discussed the program NASA established at Goddard to help facilitate reflective learning, knowledge capture, and lesson sharing.
