Making Scientific and Technical Expertise a Priority: How Urgency and Integration Drive Effectiveness

As part of our research on how organizations grow and leverage scientific, technical, engineering, and math (STEM) expertise, we examined how firms rank the urgency of their needs in this area. We also examined the effectiveness of different approaches to develop STEM talent and the degree to which organizations integrate these approaches. This article overviews APQC's findings on the relationships between these three factors: the urgency of STEM expertise shortages, the effectiveness of tools and approaches currently in place, and the level of integration among disciplinary programs.
