Lessons Learned from a Successful KM Program

El Paso Corporation is one of North America’s largest providers of natural gas and related products. In 2009, the organization launched a knowledge management (KM) program focused on communities of practice. The program has achieved significant success to date, saving El Paso $1.2 million in 2010.

This article summarizes nine lessons learned from the first years of the El Paso’s KM program. Each lesson is accompanied by supporting commentary from APQC’s 15+ years of KM research.
