In early 2013, APQC surveyed 147 members of its knowledge management (KM) audience to learn what tools and approaches their organizations use to help employees access experts and expertise within the work force. In analyzing the results, APQC looked to see whether work force size had any impact on how organizations approach expertise location.
Responses were separated into three categories according to the size of their employee populations:
- Fewer than 1,000 employees (referred to as small organizations)
- 1,000-9,999 employees (referred to as medium organizations)
- 10,000 employees or more (referred to as large organizations)
