Many organizations adopt frameworks as part of an enterprise-wide restructuring effort. But adopting a framework at any level of an organization, in any particular department, can yield substantial gains. When resource limitations, time constraints, or localized problems arise, organizations can focus on smaller-scale implementations, even if the eventual goal is enterprise-wide transformation. This article explains how best-practice organizations such as UPS and The Williams Companies took different approaches to framework implementation, what their challenges were, and the benefits they ultimately realized.
